Siteground forum hosting Siteground MySQL database

Some web hosting plan is great, but their ftp service sucks. Example, with poor ftp server connection, connection disconnected too often, or slow responding ftp server. Thats what i trying to avoid, and what i categeries as poor FTP service.

Its important to look into this ftp upload/download feature as well. When you planning to upload ten of MB of files to server, you can’t afford to have slow server or a poor ftp connection that will reset your uploading/downloading effort. Or you have thousand of tiny files need to be uploaded to server, a poor FTP connection will caused many broken/damage files arrive at server end.

I have a shared hostng account with siteground hosting, and i did personally experiencing siteground ftp service. So far so good, the ftp uploading speed is fine and fast. Not much trouble faced so far. And the server is performing great as expected.

I host a site off siteground and the ftp is constantly a pain. Also, getting support via email, phone or chat is impossible. They only allow for using a support ticket system which is also near impossible to get one open unless you figure out how to answer the questions properly. They have a wealth of tips and faqs but most relate the problem to being end-user instead of owning up that the servers do get lagged. Overall the service offering is good but the server slowness and lack of live support being readily available is a drag.

there is no choice but to start a new email ticket to siteground support… lack of life chat support is really inconvenient.

FTP problem can can be caused by many things… initially you can perform the traceroute to make sure there is no internet issue. If you are using FTP client like filezilla, your should check the ftp error log. forward this error log to support as well.

Yep, I had to do a web form ticket system with them and for the most part I am happier now, but it took 2 days to get resolved and was fixed miraculously without an admission of finding the actual problem.

Initially they acted like your usual pompous tech support team referring me to their ftp guides and saying it was my client even after I asked them initially not to waste time doing this.

I also explained that I did my research, checking online forums for similar issues/complaints,etc. I used several different ftp clients at different times of the day from different pc’s at different locations with different ISP’s. I gave them links to screen shots of my time-outs and multiple phantom sessions but could not email the logs due to no email address given out for support, even when asked through the ticket form.

After a few insults to my technical knowledge on how ftp works, I suggested that I noticed that their ftp server was giving me data ports under the standard tcp port 1023 and that could be the problem. The FTP protocol was designed to use ports dynamically higher than 1023 and could cause problems with many firewalls even ISP’s.

Since that mention, I have not connected with my client to a port under 1023 and the timeouts have mysteriously stopped.

I don’t care about pointing blame though because my FTP seems to be working fine and that’s all that matters. Everything else is satisfactory too.

IMHO Siteground seems to be an “OK” host with great pricing and as long as you know how to take charge and “own” your site and direct their people when you need it you should be happy.
